What is Finto?
Finto is a bluff quiz in app form: Finto the owl asks a question, every player invents a convincing wrong answer, called a fib, and then everyone has to find the real answer among the fibs. You score points for picking the right answer and for every player who falls for your fib. Finto is developed by Buttered Apps in Cologne, Germany, and is available for iOS and Android.
How does a round of Finto work?
A round has three steps: 1. Every player gets the same question. 2. Everyone types in a believable wrong answer. 3. All the fibs appear shuffled in with the real answer, and everyone taps the one they think is true. Then comes the reveal and the scoring: three points for the right answer, two points for every player who falls for your fib, and three points off if you fall for a fib yourself.
How many players do I need?
You play Finto with 2 to 7 players. Everyone plays on their own phone, together in the same room or in different places using a game code.
Which game modes are there?
There are three game modes: the Classic Game with no time pressure, the Quick Game with 45 seconds per fib, and the Quick Game with Strangers, where you take on other Finto players. On top of that, Focus Mode stops anyone from googling: leave the app mid-round and you’ll pick up minus points.
What questions and categories are there?
Finto has over 5,000 hand-written questions in more than 25 categories, among them “Who or What?”, “History & Religion”, “Crazy Facts”, “On & Under the Sea”, “Inventions” and “This and That”. The questions are picked so that almost nobody knows the answer for certain. That’s what makes a convincing fib possible.
How is Finto different from Fibbage or Psych!?
All three are bluff quizzes. Finto runs entirely on the players’ phones, with no console, PC or TV, and it works across distance via a game code too. There’s also a Focus Mode against googling, avatars, streaks and Party Mode for streamers. Finto is written in German and translated into five more languages, English among them.
Is Finto like “Nobody is perfect”?
Both games run on the same idea: fooling the other players with made-up answers, a mechanic that plenty of party and board games use. Finto is a standalone app by Buttered Apps GbR in Cologne, Germany, in development since 2019: over 5,000 questions written in-house in more than 25 categories, three game modes, its own scoring, Focus Mode against googling, avatars, streaks, play across distance via a game code, and a Party Mode that streamers drop into their livestream as an OBS source.
